wake-up-kid:

Look at Kurt’s face. He wants this. Not now. Not like this. But he wants it—marriage. With Blaine.

They have clearly talked about it. Probably in passing at first, with one of them casually referencing some date far in the future and it was just assumed that they would be together. Suddenly, the other caught the implication and paused, allowing the realization to spread in the comfortable silence between them, and then they chuckled, smiled lovingly at each other, and continued: the promise not spoken with words but with their hearts.

It has always been there—the knowledge of their someday—but now with Rachel and Finn making these plans it has somehow all at once become more and less real…less real because Kurt and Blaine’s someday remains a date in an imagined future.

Obviously, Kurt knew getting married in high school was insane, and he had said as much, and would continue to say as much, but that was not the only reason he was struggling to cheerlead Rachel to the alter. Kurt finally admitted to himself and then to Blaine that maybe just a little tiny part of him (okay, fine, at least half) was upset that Finn and Rachel could go off and do something monumentally insane like getting married in high school, but he and Blaine did not even have the option.

And it just hurts, because no one seems to notice. But Blaine does, he always does, because he wants this too. So, when Kurt confides in Blaine, they wallow in it for a while; in the pain, the anger, the sorrow. But then Blaine is out of Kurt’s arms, pulling wedding magazines from under Kurt’s bed, asking Kurt to show him the colors Kurt had in mind and to describe the ceremony down to the flower arrangements, because one day, marriage equality will be reality and maybe even Burt can help make it so in Congress, and damnit Blaine wants them to be ready. And Kurt eagerly joins in because it feels good, it feels real, it feels right. Those are the moments Kurt flashes back to sitting on that stage listening to his future husband speak of their someday. Those are the moments he wishes were truly real when he looks on as one of his closest friends gets ready to marry the man she loves.

Today, is not their day. But Kurt and Blaine continue to plan, because even though right now, their wedding day it is still just someday, they know it is coming, and when it does, they will greet it together.
